Stenbolone is a synthetic anabolic androgenic steroid related to dihydrotestosterone. Stenbolone acetate is its ester form and appears in historical records under Anatrofin and Stenobolone. Chemical and legal records confirm identity and control status, but direct human research is sparse. No controlled study establishes a safe nonmedical use, predictable physique result or current approved indication.

Evidence boundary: a database record can identify a molecule. It cannot authenticate a product, prove a present medicine approval, state a safe amount or predict one person’s response.

Medical, legal and sport sources checked 2 September 2026. This material gives general information. It does not provide a diagnosis, prescription, dose, cycle, purchase route, product authentication, drug test timing or advice for avoiding a sport rule.

What is stenbolone?

Stenbolone is the parent anabolic androgenic steroid. PubChem lists the formula C20H30O2 and PubChem CID 234454.[1] Its structure belongs to the dihydrotestosterone group of synthetic androgens. The molecule contains a methyl group at carbon 2 and a double bond that begins at carbon 1.

Stenbolone acetate is a separate chemical record with an acetate group attached to the parent steroid. PubChem lists the formula C22H32O3 and CID 10315500.[2] The FDA substance record assigns UNII 36HF75V9XI and identifies it as an ingredient substance.[3]

The FDA record also states that a UNII does not imply regulatory review or approval. Chemical registration answers an identity question. It does not show that a medicine is approved, sold now or suitable for a person.

Stenbolone identity and name boundaries
Term What it names Record anchor What the term cannot prove
Stenbolone The parent steroid molecule Formula C20H30O2; PubChem CID 234454 Current medicine approval, product contents, safety or a predictable result
Stenbolone acetate The acetate ester of stenbolone Formula C22H32O3; PubChem CID 10315500; UNII 36HF75V9XI That a seller’s vial contains the named ester or meets medicine standards
Anatrofin and Stenobolone Historical names linked to stenbolone acetate in the NCATS record NCATS Inxight substance record Present approval, present supply, a current label or a safe use
1 testosterone A related but separate androgen Its own chemical and page record That evidence or claims for stenbolone apply to it
Methylstenbolone A separate steroid with another structural change Its own chemical and page record That the shorter name “stenbolone” includes this compound

How are stenbolone, stenbolone acetate and Anatrofin related?

Stenbolone is the active parent molecule. Stenbolone acetate is an ester form that can release the parent steroid after ester cleavage. Anatrofin and Stenobolone are historical brand names attached to the acetate record, not proof of a present product or current national approval.[4]

An ester changes chemical mass and the way a formulated drug can be released. It does not create a new safety certificate. It also does not remove androgen activity after the parent compound becomes available in the body.

Near name collisions matter. 1 testosterone and methylstenbolone have their own identities, evidence and risks. Search results or seller pages may group them, but their claims should not be merged. Dihydrotestosterone provides the wider hormone context without becoming a synonym for stenbolone.

How may stenbolone act in the body?

Stenbolone is classified as an anabolic androgenic steroid. Compounds in this class act through androgen receptor signaling. That signaling changes gene activity in responsive tissues, including reproductive tissue, skin, muscle, bone and the blood forming system.[8]

The acetate ester acts as a precursor to the parent steroid. Enzymes can remove the acetate group after exposure. The available record supports that chemical relationship, not a personal release curve or a safe administration plan.

External androgen exposure can reduce signals from the hypothalamus and pituitary. Luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone may fall. Gonadal hormone production and sperm formation may fall with them.[8] This class pathway explains a possible effect, but it cannot prove the cause of one symptom.

Mechanism claims must stay within their source. Chemical structure can show why two compounds differ. It cannot show the size of a muscle effect, the chance of an adverse event or the time needed for recovery.

Was Anatrofin a medicine, and is stenbolone approved now?

The NCATS record links Anatrofin and Stenobolone to stenbolone acetate and describes a historical depot injection context.[4] The parent stenbolone record is described separately. These records help identify the substance and its names.

The United States authority records reviewed for this page do not supply a current medicine label, a present approved indication or an active approval year. The FDA identity record expressly warns that UNII availability does not imply review or approval.[3] Historical use in one country cannot be carried into another country or into the present.

PubMed indexes a 1969 Spanish article about stenbolone acetate and normal ovarian physiology.[6] The index record has no abstract. Its title proves that the topic was studied. It does not reveal the direction, size, reliability or clinical meaning of the findings.

No present indication should be inferred from an old brand, a research title or a chemical registry entry. A current claim needs a dated medicine authority record for the named country, product and use.

What human research exists on stenbolone?

A 1991 study examined the metabolism of stenbolone acetate in one male volunteer after a single exposure.[5] Researchers identified nine urinary metabolites and described several metabolic changes. The work provides direct human evidence about analytical identity and biotransformation.

That study was not a trial of strength, body composition, disease treatment, fertility, heart outcomes, mood effects or long term safety. One participant cannot supply an adverse event rate or a result that applies to a wider population.

The study also does not provide a personal drug test forecast. Detection depends on the compound, product, exposure, laboratory method, specimen, timing and rule system. This page gives no detection period, threshold, washout estimate or sample manipulation advice.

Current accessible records do not contain controlled human trials that establish a nonmedical benefit, a safe exposure or a comparison with another steroid. Claims about “dry gains,” low toxicity, ideal cutting use or a favorable potency ratio remain unsupported by the source set used here.

How strong is the evidence for common stenbolone claims?

Claim level evidence matrix for stenbolone
Question or claim Best source type Evidence strength Boundary
What is stenbolone? PubChem and regulatory identity records Strong for identity Identity records do not establish medicine approval or safety
Is Anatrofin linked to stenbolone acetate? NCATS historical substance record Strong for the recorded name link A historical name does not prove a current product or label
How is stenbolone acetate metabolized? Single participant human metabolism study Direct but very narrow The study cannot establish clinical benefit, safety or a personal test period
Does stenbolone improve physique or performance? No controlled human outcome trial found in the current source set Insufficient Mechanism, marketing and user reports cannot supply a reliable effect size
What health harms can occur? Anabolic steroid class research plus limited compound records Meaningful class concern Stenbolone specific rates and dose response are not known
What is its legal and sport status? Current government and World Anti Doping Agency records Strong for the named rule and date Another country, future date or personal case may differ
Does a labelled product contain stenbolone? A valid laboratory result for the exact sample Unknown without testing Appearance, price and seller claims cannot authenticate contents

What health risks may apply to stenbolone?

No modern stenbolone label supplies adverse event frequencies, contraindications or a tested monitoring schedule. Risk statements come mainly from research on anabolic androgenic steroids as a class. The exact rate for stenbolone remains unknown.

Class concerns and stenbolone specific limits
Area What class research supports What remains unknown for stenbolone
Hormones and fertility Suppression of natural hormone signals, reduced sperm production, testicular change, menstrual disturbance and virilizing effects Frequency, recovery time and the isolated effect of a claimed stenbolone product
Heart, circulation and blood Adverse lipid changes, higher blood pressure, raised hematocrit, cardiac changes and cardiovascular events Personal probability and the contribution of stenbolone apart from other drugs
Liver and kidneys Liver and kidney injury can occur with anabolic steroid exposure, especially with other stressors or substances The absence of a carbon 17 alpha methyl group does not prove liver safety or total safety
Mood, sleep and dependence Irritability, anxiety, depression, sleep change, aggressive behavior, withdrawal symptoms and dependence can occur No reliable stenbolone specific event rate or predictor
Skin, hair and reproductive traits Acne, oily skin, scalp hair loss, increased body hair, voice change and sexual symptoms may occur Reversibility varies and cannot be predicted from the compound name
Injected product harm Local infection, abscess, tissue injury, blood borne infection and contamination are separate risks A label cannot show sterility, concentration or hidden ingredients

The Endocrine Society links performance enhancing drug exposure with cardiovascular, psychiatric, metabolic, endocrine, infectious, liver, kidney and musculoskeletal disorders.[7] The statement also notes major evidence gaps and the limits of randomized trials in this setting.

Which interactions and health settings need closer attention?

There is no current approved stenbolone label with a tested interaction list. An omitted interaction is not proof of compatibility. A clinician needs the full list of steroids, medicines, stimulants, supplements, alcohol and recreational substances used during the same period.

Concern can rise when another exposure affects blood pressure, heart rhythm, clotting, red cell production, liver function, kidney function, sleep, mood or hormone balance. Several compounds also make it harder to identify the cause of a symptom or abnormal result.

Prompt medical discussion matters for people with heart or vascular disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or a clotting history. Liver disease, kidney disease or a current infection also changes the clinical question. Fertility plans, pregnancy, possible pregnancy, menstrual changes and signs of hormone suppression also change the clinical question.

Past depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, severe anxiety, aggressive impulses or substance dependence can alter urgency. Adolescents face added concerns because growth, reproductive development and decision capacity are still changing. Athletes also need the current rules of their governing body.

Do not stop a prescribed medicine or add another drug solely to change a symptom or laboratory result. Clinical care should consider other causes rather than assigning every change to stenbolone.

What may a clinician assess after a claimed stenbolone exposure?

Bring the claimed product name, clear label photographs, route, first and last exposure dates, other substances and the timing of symptoms. State clearly when “stenbolone” or “Anatrofin” is only a seller claim. Packaging can document the claim but cannot confirm the contents.

Assessment follows the history, symptoms and examination. It may include:

  • blood pressure, pulse and a cardiovascular examination;
  • a blood count, including hemoglobin and hematocrit;
  • lipid, liver and kidney measures;
  • reproductive hormone tests or fertility assessment;
  • an electrocardiogram, cardiac markers or imaging when symptoms support them;
  • mental health, sleep, dependence or immediate safety assessment;
  • direct examination of pain, redness, swelling or drainage at an injection site.

No fixed online panel fits every person. Results depend on timing, method, reference interval, hydration, recent exercise, illness and earlier values. One normal panel cannot clear future exposure, prove product identity or rule out every problem.

See how to talk with a doctor about anabolic steroid use and what blood tests can and cannot show.

What is the legal and sport status of stenbolone?

Chemical identity, medicine approval, controlled drug law and sport rules answer different questions. A substance can have a registry record without a current medicine approval. A sport ban also does not define criminal law.

Current examples of stenbolone control and sport status
Authority Recorded status Scope limit
United States federal law The Drug Enforcement Administration lists stenbolone in Schedule III with controlled substance code 4000.[9] State law and the facts of possession, prescribing, supply or import still matter
United Kingdom The Home Office list records stenbolone as Class C and Schedule 4 Part 2.[10] Possession, supply and import rules differ; the current legislation controls the result
Canada The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act lists stenbolone in Schedule IV.[11] Different acts involving the substance can carry different rules
Competitive sport The World Anti Doping Agency 2026 list names stenbolone among anabolic agents prohibited at all times.[12] An athlete must also check the current rules and medicine process of the relevant sport body

These entries were checked on 2 September 2026. Rules can change, and another country may classify the substance differently. A qualified legal professional or sport authority should address a real case.

Can a label, color or seller claim confirm stenbolone?

No. A printed name, vial color, oil thickness, package design, price or seller statement cannot prove identity, concentration, sterility or batch consistency. A product sold as stenbolone may contain another androgen, an undeclared mixture or the wrong amount of active material. It may also contain bacteria, endotoxin, particles or an unsuitable solvent.

A chemical database describes a reference substance. It does not authenticate a vial, tablet or powder. A laboratory result applies only to the sample and method tested. One result cannot prove that another batch is the same.

After a suspected exposure or adverse reaction, keep the packaging and record the dates, route, other substances and symptoms. Share that record with a clinician or poison service. Severe symptoms need emergency care.
