If you’re interested in trying performance enhancing supplements, Ostarine is a great starting point. It’s a great way to boost your body’s own natural anabolic activity, thereby improving your metabolism and the processes behind protein synthesis. Though it was originally developed to prevent or even treat muscle wasting, fitness enthusiasts have found that it can help with lean muscle gains in much the same way as many anabolic steroids.
The Benefits of Ostarine
Ostarine’s popularity stems from its ability to provide steroid-like performance enhancement without the same risk of side effects. Of course, like most SARMs, Ostarine’s primary ability involves improving lean Muscle Growth by facilitating the body’s anabolic state. When in an anabolic state, your body’s metabolism improves significantly. This means that as you gain lean muscle, you can also melt away unwanted fat. Ostarine has also been shown to improve bone density, support healthy joints, and even stimulate healing, particularly in tendons and muscles. As such, it can improve your ability to recover from injuries and even protect you against future injuries.
How Ostarine Works
Ostarine belongs to a class of drugs known as SARMs, which stands for selective androgen reuptake modulators. This means that it won’t simply flood your bloodstream with hormones. Rather, it targets your body’s androgen receptors and improves the amount of growth hormone in your body in an incredibly efficient and effective manner. Remember that anabolic steroids, including testosterone, will convert to either DHT or estrogen as your body uses them. This is not the case for Ostarine – it simply targets your androgen receptors and stimulates them to produce helpful growth factors. In turn, these growth factors boost protein synthesis, which helps bodybuilders gain lean muscle.
Is It Safe?
Ostarine is incredibly popular for SARMs Bodybuilding, which is reportedly safer than using steroids to gain muscle mass. While it’s not the only SARM out there, it is arguably the most controversial. It was the first SARM to be the center of a lawsuit; a competitor by the name of Nutrition Distribution LLC sued a supplement manufacturer called IronMagLabs for marketing products containing Ostarine as nutritional supplements rather than drugs. The case was dismissed as the judge said only the FDA can make such a decision, and the FDA has yet to intervene.
Possible Side Effects of Ostarine
Although Ostarine does not convert to estrogen or DHT in your body, which means it offers reduced side effects when compared to other performance enhancers – including steroids – there are still some possible side effects that users can experience. These include many of the same side effects as anabolic steroids, such as:
- Male pattern baldness (in those genetically predisposed);
- Testicular atrophy; and
- Virilization in females.
Studies have shown that most people who use Ostarine responsibly and at the right doses do not experience these side effects. Those who take high doses for extended periods of time (longer than four weeks) have the greatest risk of adverse effects.
Proper Ostarine Dosage and Cycles
Those who take Ostarine do so for one of three reasons: bulking, cutting, or body recompositioning. The doses and cycle lengths vary based upon your specific needs.
- For Bulking: Ostarine is arguably at its best when used during a bulking cycle as a substitute for anabolic steroids. It is by far the most anabolic of all the SARMs on the market today. To get the most out of it, use 25mg per day for four to six weeks. On average, users will see anywhere from five to seven pounds of lean muscle gain, and Ostarine PCT is not necessary.
- For Cutting: Ostarine can also be quite valuable during a cutting cycle as it has a strong ability to preserve muscle mass, even on calorie-deficient diets. For this purpose, a dose of 12.5mg to 15mg per day for four to six weeks is ideal.
- For Body Recomposition: Ostarine can help deliver the right nutrients to the right places at the right times, making it perfect for body recompositioning. For the best results, make sure your diet consists of at least 30% lean protein, and take 12.5mg to 25mg per day for four to eight weeks.
There is one exception to the idea that post-cycle therapy is not necessary. Men who weigh at least 210 pounds can use a larger dose of Ostarine – up to 36mg for as long as eight weeks – but this will cause testosterone suppression. Remember that Ostarine interacts with androgen receptors, which can trick the body into believing that there is enough testosterone to go around. You will need to follow up with PCT in this case to help jump-start your body’s ability to produce testosterone naturally after your cycle.
Ostarine comes in liquid and tablet form, which gives you plenty of options for dosage. The liquid can be added to foods and drinks, while the tablet provides simpler, safer dosing. It is currently not available in an injectable serum; quicker introduction into the bloodstream does not improve the effects of SERMs. After completing a cycle, remember to take at least a four-week break before beginning another cycle.
Taking Ostarine to Prevent Injury
Ostarine does more than simply help you build muscle or cut fat. It has been suggested that it can also improve bone density, repair damaged joints, and provide protection from injuries in the future. In fact, some experts believe that Ostarine may become a primary line of defense in the treatment of conditions like osteoporosis, or at the very least given to people who are prescribed medications that could lower their bone density.
It is becoming more prevalent to see bodybuilders and athletes taking Ostarine regularly for long periods of time to help prevent injury. Studies on the long-term use of this SARM are very limited, so if you choose to use it for more than eight weeks at a time, remember that you do so at your own risk. If you take this supplement long-term, do not take more than 12.5mg per day.
Ostarine’s Legal Status
Although anabolic steroids have been controlled substances since 1980, the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act (DASCA) was passed in 2014, which made the laws even more stringent. Essentially, it banned the sale of all anabolic steroids across the country, and this included “designer” steroids. Although DASCA did not outlaw or criminalize the sale of Ostarine and other SARMs, it certainly placed them into a gray area that is still quite controversial.
Many people feel that all SARMs should be classified as research drugs, namely because the studies on them have been so very limited. Others feel that due to its powerful effects, Ostarine should be classified as a drug rather than a nutritional supplement. This would give the FDA the ability to regulate the manufacturing, but it may also mean that Ostarine and other SERMs would only be available via prescriptions – something the athletic and fitness community simply does not want.
Ostarine Trials and Studies
GTx, a well-known pharmaceutical manufacturer and research company, has performed several smaller-scale trials and studies on the use of Ostarine. Only about 1500 people have been studied, and in the vast majority of these cases, the trials were on people who suffered cachexia as the result of cancer or other types of muscle wasting. In one such study, patients given 3mg of Ostarine daily over a 12-week period gained an average of 1.4kg of muscle mass. This same study also showed improvements in patients’ power when using a stair-climbing machine. None of the subjects were asked to perform any type of strength Training, which makes the effects profound.
Other studies performed by GTx have produced different findings. For example, it’s been shown that Ostarine can suppress testosterone production somewhat, but not nearly as much as anabolic steroids. It was also shown that Ostarine – even in a very low 3mg dosage – can reduce body fat in small amounts.
How to Find and Buy Ostarine
Due to the “gray area” associated with the legal status of SARMs like Ostarine, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find it online or in retail shops. However, there are still several companies that manufacture Ostarine, and there are several more that include it in their performance enhancement blends. It’s important to make sure that you are purchasing a high-quality product manufactured by a well-known company to get the best possible results – and for your safety, as well. The FDA does not currently regulate the production or distribution of Ostarine, so it is up to you to do your own research and protect yourself.
Ostarine is a powerful supplement that, while controversial, provides many of the same benefits as anabolic steroids, but without the same risk of substantial side effects. Even as its legal status remains under investigation, it’s growing in popularity among athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts with each passing year. When used according to recommendations, Ostarine is quite safe and effective.
