Though getting enough leafy greens into the diet can be tricky for some, including them in a juice is one of the simplest and easiest ways to increase your intake.

Kale is known as the “queen of greens” – and for good reason. With over 100% of the daily-recommended amount of vitamin C, vitamin K and vitamin A, kale also provides manganese, calcium, magnesium and even omega-3 fatty acids. Like most leafy greens kale is also rich in antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols, which helps to combat oxidative stress and damage in the body and prevent diseases such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis.

Not to be overshadowed by kale is both spinach and Swiss chard. Though spinach doesn’t pack quite the punch of nutrients as kale does, spinach is a super green in its own right. Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, iron, fiber and zinc, spinach is actually mostly comprised of protein. Swiss chard is a member of the beet family, meaning that it is rich in nitrates that have been shown to reduce blood pressure and improve endurance and athletic performance. Swiss chard also provides an impressive 700% of the daily needs for vitamin K.

Health Boosting Juice

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 3 kale leaves
  • 1 cup spinach, fresh
  • 2 Swiss chard leaves
  • 4 green apples
  • ½ lemon, peeled

Directions:

  1. Run all ingredients through a juicer.
  2. Serve over ice, if desired.
