Externally, our lives are made up of a collection of the things that we do on a daily basis. More often than not, we tend to rush through every day activities without bringing awareness and positivity to each moment. This is also very much the same internally when it comes to thoughts. How we speak to and view ourselves determines how we speak to and view the world. Drawing our attention to how we do things and how we think about them can change our perspectives immeasurably. As we strive to improve our lives, think about these 9 simple ways to have a positive day:
Be grateful for the little things. Silently say “thank you” every morning when you wake up. Be grateful for your health, your home, your food, and your education. Remember that not everyone has these luxuries. Finding gratitude for the simple things adds up greatly to create a positive life.
Do you ever find yourself nitpicking at every little thing during the day – the coffee is burnt, the sky is too cloudy, the traffic is too slow? Instead of looking at the negative, shift your attention toward the positive. And, absolutely everything has a silver lining. Focusing on the positive or the negative takes the same amount of energy, but creates drastically different results.
These three words are so simple, but they mean so much. Say these words often and mean them. Call your mother and tell her you love her. Kiss your partner and express your love. Hug your children and tell them you how you feel. Tell your friends and your siblings – express your love as much as possible. The more love you spread, the more love you receive and nothing is more positive than love.
Take a few moments in your day to focus your attention on your breathing. Simply taking the time to slow down and listen to the rhythm of your breathing will allow for moments of meditative stillness which is proven to bring calm and relax the mind.
A smile transcends any barriers. Spreading positivity is the best way to receive it back. If you smile at a stranger on the street, chances are, they’ll smile back. These simple exchanges can drastically affect your day. Simply acknowledging another human being that you pass can create a small but significant connection that can boost your happiness. You’ll feel a sense of connection, and all humans just want to feel connected in a positive way.
Being conscious and aware can greatly affect how you view things. Focus on the feelings inside your body as you workout. Draw attention to your breathing as you fall asleep. Be mindful about the way that you think when you’re alone and the way that you speak when you’re with others. The more awareness and mindfulness that you bring to every day things in your life, the more present you become in each moment, which brings us to…
Be totally present in each and every moment of your day. Try not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. Just being in the here and now can change your perspective on life immensely (for the better!). Being present encourages gratitude and mindfulness nourishing the mind and the soul. Living in the moment will absolutely bring positivity into your day-to-day life.
We are what we eat. Eating a nutritious and balanced diet creates clarity and positivity in the body and the mind. Simply choosing foods that give you energy and nourishment will help you remain satiated and upbeat all day.
Sweat once a day. The release of endorphins from any sort of physical activity instantly improves your mood. Walk, run, practice yoga, play a team sport, lift weights, jump rope, dance – just move! Not only will you create a boost of energy in your physical body, but you’ll also release tension and create relaxation in the mind. Physically moving is a great way to brighten any day.
Life has a way of moving us up and down, up and down. Some days, you will find that positivity comes naturally. Some days are more challenging and negative than others. When you find yourself struggling, practicing these 9 basic steps daily will not only bring positivity to your day, but they will bring positivity to your whole life.
